A large sinkhole that appeared in late May in a farm in central Mexico has already grown larger than a football field authorities say it is likely to continue expanding.

The sinkhole is now over 400 feet (125 meters) across and has begun swallowing a house. The Mexican government has sent in soldiers to keep people 2,000 feet (600 meters) away from the edge of the hole, which is 50 feet (15 meters) at its deepest point.It's hard to tell , because the water is fills the crater.

Sinkholes are most common in what geologists call, “karst terrain.” 

what is karst terrain ?

Karst landscapes are shaped when surface or ground water becomes weakly acidic and reacts chemically with atmospheric or soil carbon dioxide & creates gap ]

Sinkholes are common where the rock below the land surface is limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds, or rocks that can naturally be dissolved by groundwater circulating through them. As the rock dissolves, spaces and caverns develop underground...!

When the ground depression occurs , if the natural external surface like drainage is absent then the water from the rainfall will directly penetrate into ground & stored in the land..! Thus it too leads too develop a sinkholes.

This is what happening in Mexico also & this type of incidents are also happened in Italy

A huge sinkhole has appeared in a staff car park at a hospital in Italy.

The 50-metre wide hole swallowed cars and caused a power cut at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples.

No-one was injured but the hospital had to rely on generators.
